It also grades each chamber of the state legislature separately, as well as the Governor, on their responses to these bills.

 

 

Fool’s Gold- The Silver State’s Tax Structure: Inadequate and Inequitable (2009)

This report details the fundamental unfairness of the existing tax system to poor and working families, while giving tax breaks to big companies and wealthy individuals. It also examines and evaluates a variety of more equitable tax policies which would allow the state government to raise the funds to support schools, infrastructure, and essential services.

 

 

Vital Beyond Belief: The Demographic and Economic Facts about Hispanic Immigrants in Nevada (2007)

At PLAN’s request, the Center on Work & Community Development analyzed the economic contributions of Hispanic immigrants to Nevada’s economy, expanding on a study of the Las Vegas economy. This is an update of 2002 Center for Business and Economic Research report and 2004 Center for Work & Community Development report.

 

 

Hidden Oasis: Water Conservation and Efficiency in Las Vegas (2007)

The purpose of this study, by Western Resource Advocates, is to provide information to help the public and policy makers understand and evaluate the potential for improving water management. Las Vegas and the Groundwater Development Project: Where Does it Start, Where Does it End? (2006)

Increasingly, cities are eyeing the water in rural areas and are contemplating large-scale water transfers. Rural has it, urban wants it, and money and power are largely on the side of the cities. We’re at a crossroads, and the life of rural America is in the balance. Without water, rural communities and the farmers and ranchers who grow our food cannot thrive.

 

 

Water in the Urban Southwest (2006)

Written and edited by Taryn Hutchins-Cabibi, Bart Miller, and Anita Schwartz of Western Resources Advocates. In this report we examine water use in three well-known metropolitan areas in the southwestern United States: Albuquerque, the Las Vegas Valley, and Tucson. Despite the similarities among these communities, the way that water is both used and managed is quite different. One theme holds true: there is always room for improvement.

The Economic Contribution of Non-Native (Immigrant) Hispanics to Nevada (2004)

At PLAN’s request, the Center on Work & Community Development analyzed the economic contributions of Hispanic immigrants to Nevada’s economy, expanding on a study of the Las Vegas economy by UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research. PLAN took the resulting research, combined with data from the Census Bureau and National Immigrant Law Center, and presented key findings, exposed myths, and gave policy recommendations.
