Nevada is growing by leaps and bounds, and our immigrant population is growing too.
People move to Nevada for lots of reasons, but one of the big
reasons they stay is that there’s work for them here. Immigrants have
become an essential part of the mix that makes Nevada grow and go.
Did You Know?
The growing Hispanic immigrant community paid 44% more in taxes in Nevada in 2005 than in 2000, roughly $1.6 billion in state and local taxes. That’s a significant portion of the projected $3.4 billion state budget for 2007-08.
70.5% of immigrants in Nevada are originally from Central or South America; 18.3% are from Asia; 9.4% are from Europe and Canada
Hispanic immigrants constitute:
81% of the agricultural workforce
47% of the construction and mining workforce
22% of the entertainment and tourist services workforce
The money that immigrants earn and spend in Nevada accounts for about 25% of the State’s Gross State Product, the measure of Nevada’s economic output.
PLAN recognizes that immigrants, both documented and undocumented, contribute greatly to the economy and culture of Nevada today and will play an increasingly important role in the future. We believe the existing immigration system is broken and that it is up to all of us to fix it so that immigrants can contribute and benefit fully as together we build a better Nevada.
