Health Care for America Now, a national group working to provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans, and HCAN’s statewide partner, the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, will once again spotlight the health insurance industry’s appalling – but profitable – practices Tuesday, Oct. 6, in a camera-ready protest outside the United HealthCare offices in Las Vegas.

The “Big Insurance: Sick of it” campaign will bring protesters, activists and health care consumers back to the scene of the “crime,” where insurance industry executives make daily decisions that compromise health in favor of huge profits and executive salaries. The 11 a.m. event will be in front of United HealthCare’s offices at 2724 N. Tenaya Way in Las Vegas.

Although polls consistently show significant majorities of American’s favor reform that provides access to quality health care and controls costs, the insurance industry is spending millions in advertising and lobbying to block health-insurance reform in Congress.

Where: 2724 N. Tenaya Way, Las Vegas

When: 11 a.m.-Noon, Tuesday, Oct. 5

For more information, contact:  Theresa Navarro, HCAN State Director, (775) 560-1300; or Michael Ginsburg, PLAN Health Care Organizer, (702) 791-1965.

GIVE CITIZENS A VOICE ON THE PIPELINE!

ACTION ALERT

GIVE CITIZENS A VOICE ON THE PIPELINE!

SNWA Board to Vote Aug. 20 – Will the public be allowed to speak?

The Southern Nevada Water Authority management has scheduled a “confidence vote” in the plan to pump billions of gallons of water annually from rural Nevada and Utah to Las Vegas.

PLAN and conservationists from throughout the West are urging the SNWA board members to do two things: a) Vote against the Las Vegas Water Grab; and b) Allow the public to speak on the issue!

The SNWA board usually does not allow public input before important votes. This patently anti-democratic policy has been the agency’s rule for years, but the board can allow comment. People from throughout urban and rural parts of Nevada and Utah want to be heard!

CONTACT SNWA BOARD MEMBERS AND ASK THEM TO LISTEN TO THE PUBLIC BEFORE THEY VOTE!

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is a national grassroots campaign of more than 850 organizations representing 30 million people dedicated to winning quality, affordable health care we all can count on in 2009. We are doctors, nurses, community organizations, small business owners, faith-based groups, people of color, seniors, and children’s and women’s rights groups. We are building a national movement to win comprehensive health care reform by helping mobilize people in their communities to lobby their Members of Congress to stand up to the insurance companies and other special interest groups to achieve quality, affordable health care in 2009.
