LGBT Equity
PLAN continues to fight to ensure the inclusion of LGBTQ access to the plans and prevent discrimination against LGBTQ people in the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange (SSHIX). PLAN provides testimony and coordinates with its partners to maximize attendance and public comments throughout the process. We continue to build new relationships with rural health advocates and groups that are now allied in the goal of advancing LGBTQ equity in health care as well as groups previously involved in only LGBTQ organizing.
Federal Judiciary/ Why Courts Matter
Recently, PLAN and ProgressNow Nevada (PNN) joined forces with the Legal Progress program at the Center for American Progress to launch Advice and Dissent: Making the Judiciary a Progressive Priority.
ProgressNow Nevada and PLAN will manage and organize a public education, grassroots advocacy, and communications program to promote and build support in Nevada for the core values of promoting a more progressive judiciary. At its core, this project seeks to embed the importance of “Why Courts Matter” into progressive organizations and create a narrative of the fundamental commonalities of progressive issues and the need to advance a more progressive judiciary for preservation and promotion of those issues. The major areas of concentration for this project of PNN and PLAN in partnership with Legal Progress include: Federal judicial emergencies, the vacancy crisis and Senate obstructionism, judicial nominee ideology, and identifying qualified prospective candidates for judicial nomination. Our partnership will also strive to embed judicial issues into Nevada’s progressive infrastructure as well as foster a political climate where Nevada’s elected officials and leaders in the legal community will support and advocate for qualified, progressive consensus candidates.
