The Tax Code is Rigged to Help the Rich Get Richer
05/19/2012 — We’re preaching to the choir here, right? We know that Nevada’s tax structure is unfair, made to protect the richest among us and the corporations that settle here, while we lose essential services and are hit with sales tax increase and “fees”. Our executive director Bob Fulkerson penned this opinion piece for the Reno Gazette Journal on how and why Nevada’s tax code isn’t meant to benefit us.
What will it take for Nevada to allow ALL residents and visitors to marry?
05/19/2012 — In 2009 PLAN helped pass the nation’s strongest domestic partnership laws here in Nevada; even overruling then-Governor Jim Gibbon’s veto. But for many same sex couples, it’s still a second class designation. Britney Spears can drunkenly get married in Las Vegas at the spur of the moment, but loving couples in long term committed relationships are forced to deal with a separate and not so equal designation. So what will it take to make all couples equal in Nevada? The Reno Gazette Journal’s Ray Hagar talks to Nevadans including our technology director Joe Edson and executive director Bob Fulkerson.

Our director Bob Fulkerson is quoted in both stories making one thing perfectly clear: fixing Nevada’s broken tax system will not be easy. The sliver of hope on this “tax battle”? Mr. Miller abandoning his self-serving tax initiatives will allow PLAN and its allies to have a laser focus on the SJR15 that will, if passed by the legislature one more time then voted on by the people, would remove mining special tax privledges they wrote for themselves in the constitution.
